Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge

**Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge** represents two of Monet's greatest achievements: his gardens at Giverny and the paintings they inspired. In 1893, Monet bought a parcel of land adjacent to his property in Giverny and transformed it into a water garden inspired by the Japanese prints he collected. This painting is part of a series of views of the wooden footbridge over the pond. The vertical format gives prominence to the water lilies and their reflections on the surface of the pond.
